Catch of the season starts our 2016 - 17 campaign

U11's Match report

Day 1

It was very clear when all the players showed their keenness during the fielding drills before the game started in the way they were attempting to go after every ball.

Doonside won the toss and elected to bat.

Unfortunately anxiety got to our opening batsmen Malay and Shrootung got run out in the very first over. This brought Blake to the crease and after getting his eye in he got bowled to a beauty of a leg-cutter. Next batsman was Liam who steadied the ship until first drinks break. Liam had partnership of 46 with Malay but like Blake, he was also out bowled by one of the 3 Reps Bowler that City had. Leon continued his stupendous form from last season and scored 10 runs of the first 3 balls he faced. He had partnership of 59 with Malay before Malay ran himself out trying to steal a quick single in the 33rd Over.

That brought one of our many debutantes Jackson to the crease. We lost Leon and Nick in quick succession. Jackson showed great composure to bat with the remaining batsmen who were all debutantes. Shanay, Adam, Semisi and Shafiq showed good commitment to stay at the crease and eagerness to learn the game. Jackson was the last batsman out at the team score of 156 from 42 overs.

This left City about 5 overs to bat.

Jackson in his first over of his career got through the gates of their opening batsman. Great accuracy from a player who has never played cricket before. And then Jackson got another wicket thanks to Liam. One won't find many better catch then the one Liam took in covers (to dismiss one of Reps player from City). Catch would have even made 1st grade Senior players drop their jaw.

Doonside 156
